I'm Clare. Before there was McCallyWood, there was the bottom of the world. I worked at the South Pole and at McMurdo Station in Antarctica — seasons of hard work under a sky that never hurried, in the coldest, brightest, most honest place I have ever known.
At the South Pole, there is no North Star. It never rises there. Through the long polar night, the whole southern sky turns slowly overhead, and for centuries sailors in that hemisphere have steered home by the Southern Cross instead. You learn that finding your bearings is a practice, not a place.
I came to Idaho from Montana, imported by my smokejumper husband — to McCall, to Payette Lake, to mountains where the North Star hangs bright over the water. From Big Sky country to the Dark Sky country: some of the darkest skies in America, where on a clear night the stars come out the way they did at the Pole. Here I built the boutique I could never find anywhere else: a place for the guest who arrives with nothing but the weekend, and leaves with everything it calls for.
McCallyWood is the result of a decade of fieldwork amongst the resort tribespeople. Our OG Topside, Satellite Outpost at Tamarack Resort, and now so proud to offer McCallyWood online — resort-inspired finds from everywhere I've been and everywhere you'll go, gathered so you can find the piece, the gift, the look that is unmistakably yours.
Find your North Star. Arrive with nothing. Leave McCallyWood.
